Orkney travelled across to Thurso on Saturday 17 November to play the first leg of the annual inter-county against Caithness.
Caithness have dominated the fixture over recent years, and their wins have all been built on good home results. Unfortunately this was once again the case as the Caithness men overpowered their opponents 7-3, leaving Orkney with it all to do in the home leg.
There were however some positives and Orkney will look to build on the excellent performances of Adam Stanger, Matthew Wylie and Finlay Scott, who all secured straight-set wins against strong opposition.
The squad will also be strengthened in the home leg by the return of a number of established county players including Andrew Torbet who missed this match as he was competing in (and winning) the Tayside and Fife Junior Open over the weekend.
The Orkney team would like to thanks Caithness for their hospitality – Andrew Bremner deserves a special mention – and thanks also to the club’s main sponsor Scottish Sea Farms and to strip sponsor Sutherland’s Pharmacy for pulling out the stops to get the team’s new shirts ready in time.
