New Beginnings - a Letter from President Linda Hill

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have notice that the walls have now appeared around the three new squash courts at the Picky Centre - a sure sign that we are getting nearer to seeing the opening of the new facility.  The courts are due to be ready on 28th June 2012. There will be an Opening Ceremony once the Courts are completed and a Grand Opening Event in October. The exact date of the October event is still being finalised but will be a day of exhibitions and coaching clinics featuring Peter Nicol (MBE, ex-world number 1, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, etc, etc), Stuart Crawford (Scottish Squash & Racketball’s Assistant National Coach) and Ali Livingstone (Suffolk No1 Racketball player). More details nearer the time.

Meanwhile the KSRC sub-committee is continuing negotiations towards securing favourable rates for our members at the new facility. To this end we must hold an EGM in April/May in order to have the terms all ratified by the KSRC members.  Please check the website and Orcadian for more details. Once at the new squash court, KSRC will continue to run the monthly leagues, hold competitions, Inter County events, junior sessions and Club Play sessions for squash and the increasingly popular racketball.  The new facility, apart from being brand spanking new and warm, will have three singles courts with sprung floors which can also be converted to two full size doubles courts.

Linda Hill

August 17, 2011

The Club’s AGM was held at the Picky, chaired by President Linda Hill on Aug 16. A good crowd heard that there had been a good year with significant progress made towards the new courts which should be ready for the 2012 season. The existing committee was re-elected apart from Yvonne Firth who stood down after many years service. Susan Craigie was elected as the new Treasurer in place of Yvonne.

It was agreed that subscriptions would remain at this year’s level and the court door lock would be changed on Sep 1 as usual.

After the AGM, an EGM was held to rename the Club as Kirkwall Squash and Racketball Club, reflecting the growth of the sport within the Club and in line with the national body which has been renamed Scottish Squash and Racketball.

October 8, 2010

Kirkwall Squash Club has been fundraising in The Blue Door during the week of Monday 11th October until Saturday 16th October, raising just over £2000 for Club funds. This is a very significant contribution to Club funds and all the help given in any way is much appreciated. A big thank you to the volunteers at the Blue Door without whom the week would not have been possible.
